Does a camera flash reflect dark skin?

Well, i am a swimmer, and i'm in the sun a lot. So, i had my high school banquet night for a club i am in, and afterwords, i was taking pictures with people for memories and such. Well, when i got home, i looked at the photos, and my skin was shinier than most peoples. It looked like the flash was reflecting off my skin. It looks terrible. So i was wondering if a camera flash does reflect darker skin.
